Privilege Campaign III Workshops (10/20, 10/21)

CAMPUS ONLY. Vassar created its first Privilege Campaign in 2013 to increase dialogue around issues of social identity, privilege, power and how individuals and groups experience these issues on campus. The campaign exhibited close-up facial photos of Vassar employees and students, with superimposed text that addressed privileges specific to the individual (a longer statement from the individual accompanied the photo). Privilege Campaign III is looking for new participants and invites interested people to a series of workshops. These sessions will lead participants through dialogue and self-discovery toward a statement that can be featured with their photo at a campus gallery exhibit in March. Led by Campus Life directors for the ALANA, LGBTQ, and Women's Centers, B Nathan and Judy Jarvis, these workshops are open to students and employees. Workshops will be held in the ALANA Center as follows: Tuesday, October 20, noon-1:30pm and 1:30pm-3:00pm; and in the Women's Center, Wednesday, October 21, noon-1:30pm. Contact Jennica Karpinski, jekarpinski@vassar.edu to register. Sponsored by the Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT), the Campus Life and Diversity Office and Campus Activities.

OPENING RECEPTION: "Privilege Campaign II"

Privilege Campaign II is an installation of photo portraits featuring Vassar College administrators and students, who share their thoughts on dominant privileges and reflections on not having access to privilege. Now in its second year, this project seeks to create greater dialogue and awareness around issues of identity, community, privilege, power and how different groups experience our campus and the world beyond Vassar.
